Hosta of the Day 'Rootin Tootin' - Post Your Pics

Post by ViolaAnn »

For today's hosta, we leave "s" behind though I know there are some other wonderful hostas beginning with "s". But I've posted all that I have and I don't have many large hostas.

Today, let's look at 'Rootin Tootin'. Mine was new in spring 2008 and has done well for me. I took one division a year ago for a friend. Otherwise, it's undivided.

Mark I had to wait until I got home and I took a look at all my pics taken during the season. Like many, it emerges quite yellow and lightens during the season. I would say it's quite white now, but I'd have to look at it outside and compare it to, say 'Undulata Univittata' to see whether it's really white or cream now.

This hosta was the convention plant for the 'Rootin' Tootin' Time in Wisconsin, Midwest Regional Hosta Society convention in
Milwaukee in 2006, and that is where the name originated.
It's a really nice plant, quite vigorous for a white-centered hosta. Mark, I don't know at the moment either if it's really white or cream...I would have to go out and
look at mine to see. I know it doesn't melt out at all in my garden, and mine was growing in nearly full sun in my growing area until this spring, when it got a home in a garden bed.
And time remembered is grief forgotten,
And frosts are slain and flowers begotten.....

In truth I have never had any experience with this plant nor seen it over here (Britain) yet. However it is a very pretty hosta

Ours comes up very yellow in the center, turns creamy by mid to late June and by August is white centered.

I took a look at mine and I don't think it's quite as white as 'Undulata Univittata', but we've had a lot of rain this summer ... I notice some of my others that usually turn quite white still have a creamy or even yellowish cast to them this year.

I sometimes mix this one up with 'Summer Music', except the green is lighter on SM. This one is doing OK, but cut worms found it early in the season.

A resemblance to the 'Striptease' family never crossed MY mind. How about others?

2016 - this is a mature hosta. I don't see a lot of difference from year to year.

2017 update - not much change. It's a mature hosta. July 19, 2017 and we had lots of rain and lots of slugs.
