I did show this one last season but this is a better photo. The center of the flower shows a "star" pattern and the center stripe coloration goes into the throat of the flower.

One of the old ones from 2012 finally opened flowers yesterday. It's labeled as a #102. It's different because it has a frosted look on the top of the leaf as well as the bottom. It may also have the darkest leaves (there is another small one with dark leaves). The flowers are tiny relative to other #102's.

A couple "new" ones today. I think there are only 2 new ones left to open.

The first I thought was Miss Ruby by the foliage but the flower is wrong. It's the same pattern as a few others.

I was working on some photos of another Miss Angie seedling today. It didn't flower this season so I went hunting through last season's photos and found a couple flower shots. This is AWS Miss Angie seedling Q3-A. It's a good sized green plant with red petioles.

I started this topic in 2014 when I found a seedling flower that had a colorful edge to it.

Early in the flowering cycle:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=57978&hilit=wrede#p494887

Late in the flower cycle (shown in a different topic):
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=60316#p501005

The plant didn't flower during the 2015 season.

I re-potted the plant a couple of days ago and while moving it around today noticed one of the shoots was showing some streaking. Hopefully it will flower this season.

Re: Seedling Flowers out of Art Wrede's Collection

I have been waiting to see flowers on this one for a few years. It's not directly out of Art Wrede's collection but took a detour. Back in 2012 Art gave his plants to Roger Smith - there were thousands when you broke down the pots. Roger would offer many of the unnamed ones to visitors to his garden including me. One time while looking at the many unnamed plants that came out of Art's plants, I noticed two with a "different" look to them. Roger said take them. The petioles had a somewhat different red color to them. I called them "Red Twizzler Sticks". The leaves have become shiny and rounder over the years and the plants have a strong resemblance to a plant I have called Eye of the Storm which is an all green sport of The Perfect Storm. The Perfect Storm is a red petioled streaker seedling that Art developed out of Sailor's Warning. I was wondering if these plants weren't just green hunks that came off The Perfect Storm as Art was growing it. The flowers are very similar.

I wasn't happy with the picture above - I couldn't get the right angle on the Eye of the Storm flower. I went and got a flower picture from another "sport" of The Perfect Storm I'm calling "Edge of the Storm" (I have shown this plant on this forum before). I cropped them and placed them side-by-side.

These are "Miss Selene" flowers this season (this is a seedling of Miss Angie). I missed the first ones to open. Getting photos today I noticed only 5 petals. I went back to get more photos and found that both open flowers on different scapes only have 5 petals showing. The sixth is deformed and wrapped around the filament and anther or merged with it.
I was looking to see what the flower stripes look like this season and noticed the petal missing.

The next flowers on "Miss Selene" were normal.

Miss Angie seedling "Miss Selene" - August 1, 2016
Miss Angie seedling "Miss Selene" - August 1, 2016
Miss Angie seedling "Miss Selene" - August 1, 2016
The petal on the bottom/left is probably the one that was deformed on the other flowers.
This flower is a good example of striping differences between the sepal on the top/left and the petal top/center. The sepal is missing most of its center stripe. While the petal's central stripe is almost as long as the two adjacent stripes.

When I was looking for a name for this plant I starting searching for something with a "crescent" shape. That was the shape at the "bottom" of the stripes caused by the missing center stripe. Selene is the goddess of the moon in Greek mythology and her symbol is a crescent. So that kind-of worked. But I also found somewhere on Google it mentions that "Selene" was "the Mother of Vampires". The "Selene" part of this plant's name came from the look of the sepal with the two long descending stripes. So Selene is either a lunar goddess or the mother of vampires.

These are some photos from a couple of years ago. I don't think I have ever posted this one. It is unusual from the point of view that it is so plain - just All Plain Green. No color in the petiole or scape, nothing notable about the leaf and not much notable about the flower except it's larger than the others here. But this season I noticed that the flower has fragrance. So it must have plantaginea in its background. That makes this plant very unusual in this grouping where Art was using Katsuragawa Beni, longipes hypoglauca, longipes latifolia, Riptide, Candy Dish and many others for his crosses which add "features" to the seedlings.

A couple more of these that I haven't shown before. Nothing really notable. When Art gave these to me I separated them by similar foliage. These are from a group I called the "I" series. There were 9 at first but as they evolve and I see different flowers on them they get a different designation.

Here is I-5 and I-7. But I-7 will be "renamed" to Q-2 because the flower is different.
