Name: H. 'Ghost Spirit'

Description: broadly ovate leaves folded with blue-green centre streaked with white. Medium blue-green margins.
Size: Medium (24"w x 14"h)
Origin: Sport of H. 'Valentine Lace'
Flowers: pale lavender, tubular on tall black scapes
Added to garden: Spring 2008

The first year I had this it was very misty all year. Likely because of growing conditions in whatever nursery it came from. In subsequent years, the leaf centre has been mostly white with just a bit of mistiness later in the season.

A very early spring this year and we had a very hot, dry summer and this one showed more misting than I've seen in it since it was new.

2014 - lots of rain this year and it has been more misted. Not much growth though. It is so similar in colour to the Brunnera which is next to it that I think I'll have to move the Brunnera. Actually, even 'Ghost Spirit' may need to be moved as it nearly gets lost amongst larger plants.

In another topic I had mentioned I couldn't find my Ghost Spirit. Turns out I was looking right at it but only saw this dark green plant. I was expecting misting in the center and kept overlooking this plant. Looking closely at some leaves there is a hint of a difference in the center.

Mine is much darker than usual this year as well, though not quite as dark as yours.

I went back and looked at old pictures. It's always dark in the spring but I don't have any end of season shots.

2015 - July 03. This one emerged misted in 2015 and remained so all season. Otherwise, it grew well this year with virtually no sign of the nematodes which have affected it in the past.

2017 update. The amount of mistiness in this one varies from year to year, but I don't think I've ever seen it as white as the very first picture I posted. This picture July 1, 2017.
