Daily Hosta - 'T Rex' - Post your pics

Post by gesila9 »

Name: H. 'T Rex'
Description: Blue/green leaves of the T. Rex Hosta are slightly wavy and floppy.
Size: XL(60"w x 30"h)
Origin: montana f. macrophylla x 'Big John' hybrid
Flowers: White Flowers.
Added to garden: 04/30/11

I bought this one dormant in a pot in April. It had 10 eyes, but took forever for all of them to unfurl. I don't think it like being in the pot as it seem to come alive once we stuck it in the ground. I suspect this one will be much larger next year.

That's looking pretty good Linda! T Rex is reported to be extra large, but boy, it sure takes its time getting there. I'm thinking that it is one of those plants that needs special garden conditions to really get huge, kind of like Mr. Big which can be a dud in a lot of gardens and gigantic in others.

Thanks Chris, next year it will be watered with our new irrigation system I won in a contest. The soil in the pachysandra garden is awesome, like your nursery, we can use a pitch fork in this section. Even though the pachysandras have tons of roots, they keep the soil from becoming compacted.

I don't have a picture of mine to add, because it's not got any size to it yet.
I had to move Mr. Big from a location where it was a dud out into my growing area, and will have to move
both it and T Rex next year before they get any bigger. Neither is a monster yet, but they are growing.
I read through the description at the top of your post that says T Rex has a creamy white border. Not sure where
that would have come from, but it's an all-green hosta.

Thanks for noticing the mistake on the leave description, I fixed it. I cut and paste from a previous post. Ready for Ann to come back and take the lead :D

I came across a T Rex at a garden center near me. They had about 8 of them. Seven were plain green but one looked blue - the way it should. And it had a flower scape.
