Three seasons ago I came across Unforgettable in a local nursery and really liked the look of it. It immediately fell apart and nearly died (there is something wrong with the spot I put it in). I moved what was left and this year it's small but coming along. Since I liked the look of it, I ordered another one on-line. What I got is similar but a lot lighter. Would anyone know if this is a variation in the plant?

Re: A question about Unforgettable
Hi Ed,
What a coincidence... I was just looking at unforgettable in the Hostapedia and had decided that it was probable the name of my 11year old hosta that I had lost the tag on way back. It looks like your new hos ta...I can't say positively that's it but I've been trying to ID this one for a few years. I had thought it was Francis Williams for years until I got serious about hos ta and noticed the differences, size,color,V.P. ,etc.
I'm trying to send a picture from last year but I think the files too big I'll try another post. I am on photobucket if you want to check it out.
Well I'll be darned ...it showed up - dash

Re: A question about Unforgettable
Here's what I know about Unforgettable after having it in my garden for 5 years.
It's a slow grower for me. It comes up with lighter color in the spring, and any new flushes of
growth are also lighter. Then the center deepens in color and the edge gets brighter as the
season goes on. It's quite upright in appearance as it gets older. Now, in the 5th year in
my garden, I'm finally seeing why they might have named in Unforgettable, but for years I've
thought that they should have left the "UN" off the beginning of the name.
It could be that I just don't have it in the right spot, but I treated it the same as I do all my hostas..
gave it a couple of years in the growing beds, free of any root competition with good soil, etc.
The place it's planted has many hostas growing there, and they are all doing well. I put it towards the
back because I thought that it would be tall, but it's sort of hiding back there. The growth is upright,
it's just not very tall.
SO, to answer your question, the new one may just be at a different stage of growth, and hasn't achieved
the later season color just yet.

Re: A question about Unforgettable
Here is one of my Unforgettable today. The other one is in a trough somewhere.
This one has a yellow sport for a couple of seasons now.
This one is growing in bright shade with a lot of tree root competition.
That's Lady Godiva behind it and First Frost back to the left. Yellow sport of Unforgettable:

Re: A question about Unforgettable
Unforgettable growing in a trough - this one is a lot more variable than the one I have in the ground (with the yellow sport). The bright-white centered plant at the top is CVG Can Can a Striptease sport.

Re: A question about Unforgettable
Went out today to look at the other one and found it to be just as variable as the one in the trough. Just goes to show!

And the all gold hunk is still there. The MyHosta database shows that there is an all gold sport called 'Skyrocket' with photos in the Hosta Library - Ed McHugh, Sicklerville NJ

Re: A question about Unforgettable
The Unforgettable I have that is growing in a trough is putting out an all yellow sport just like the one I have in my garden.
Another yellow sport from Unforgettable.
