Masquerade
I found this little gem at a nursery very cheap and at first I questioned the ID of the plant. Has anyone else grown Masquerade? Does it start like this and then turn to the mostly white inner leaf?

Masquerade is an easy grower for me. Mini, white center with green specks in it. I think the ID is correct. A lot of white centered ones green up under stress.

Here's a pic of mine I took just minutes ago. Yes, it does green up at times, especially later in the season. I've had mine for 7 years, and it's been one of my easier to grow minis. Most years it has a green eye or two, and I just pull them out.
I noticed when I took the pic that I have quite a few seed pods on mine this year. Does anyone know if the seed is viable?

Hi--Here are my comments from the POTD of May 30th. You can see the photos by going to that posting, if you are interested.
Hi All--Masquerade is one of the smallest varieties in our collection. As you can see from the pic, we use it in a "mass" planting under some other hostas, as well as a few individual plants here and there in our beds. I purchased the original plant in 1994 and have made divisions a number of times. Our plants are in line with Lemke's listing of 10x4. Zilis lists it at 16x6. It is growing in an area that receives no more than an hour of sun, depending on the season. We do have to be on the look out for individual leaves and eyes turning all green. They need to be removed to prevent the all green from over taking the rest of the clump. Slugs are a problem without a routine application of bait.

Masquerade
I've had Masquerade for about 8 years. I find it slow to emerge in spring and a VERY slow grower and I've never seen any greening of the leaves though I suppose it might depend on your zone and general growing conditions. But I reviewed my pics - taken about once a week - of Masquerade in two locations in my garden. Here is one of them in mid-July.
